Changes to Playground Standards for Australia New changes are underway for  the safety standards for Playground Equipment  AS 4685-parts 1 to 6 , and Jeavons Landscape Architects advises our clients and colleagues  that  the amendments  are now available  for public comment until 16 October 2013 . Scope The changes affect play spaces in Supervised Early Childhood Centres as well as in schools and all public play spaces . Background The new document DRAFT for public comment DR_AS_4685.1  is based on the current European Standard EN:1176 with a series of Australian amendments that will be listed as an Appendix (these are referred to as ZZ Appendices ).

Jeavons Landscape Architects were invited to assist with further development of the outdoor play spaces on this is new early childhood centre in the Kimberley, W.A. The centre provides care and education services to children and families from the Fitzroy River Valley.  The centre has a wonderful new building which was only opened officially in June 2013.   The aim is to provide rich and culturally appropriate outdoor play and to address critical issues such as shade in a climate where the temperatures are regularly above 40 degrees in summer.

Very small park, big local role

The new playground and park refurbishment at Friendship Square, Cheltenham has transformed this space into a lively and widely-used pocket park. Since its recent construction, the park has seen a significant rise in popularity with locals enjoying the space on a daily basis. As part of the Kingston City Council Playground Strategy prepared by Jeavons in 2009, the tiny park was recognised as an important space due to its location.
