Yarra Bank Playground

September 19th, 2020

Yarra Bank Reserve is the site of one of the earliest river crossing points for Melbourne and an aboriginal canoe launching area. The site was part of an early colonialist ‘Estate’ and a public garden and is now used by the public and local Rowing Clubs daily and for annual regatta events.
The design acknowledges the multi-cultural and historical significance of the park through interpretive sculptures highlighted by an inverted interactive canoe and contemporary aboriginal theme carved sculptures. This is a gift celebrating Rotary’s 100 years of service.
The outcome is a multi-sensory and inclusive playspace that delicately sits amongst the existing formal gardens and red gums along the River. This new, inclusive and sensorily rich playspace sits delicately between the remaining formal gardens of an early colonialist estate and the magnificent river red gums along the Yarra river.
