landscape design CONSULTATION AND ENGAGEMENT

The Jeavons team uses various consultation and engagement processes to understand how our clients (children and adults) use outdoor spaces in school grounds, public parks and play spaces, kindergartens, and other settings. Through careful listening, observation and engagement processes, we gain local insight. This informs our design work and ensures that the design outcome is relevant, practical and respects the people who use the space, especially children.

As one of Australiaโ€™s top landscape architecture firms specialising in childrenโ€™s spaces, Jeavons always tailor our engagement processes for each client, and especially towards childrenโ€™s voices, to inform our work. Every project will include meetings at each stage; to seek input, insight and feedback from clients and key stakeholders.

There are many processes and options available, depending upon the nature of the project, its budget, and timelines:

  • In Schools we use site observations at lunch time for our educational landscape design processes, to note how students use every part of the school grounds; usually followed by a staff meeting at the end of the day
  • Jeavons also frequently use โ€˜guided toursโ€™ by school children to show us where they play and what they value in each space.
  • In early learning centre design projects, we consult educators and children where possible For larger public projects, we use observations on site, and can conduct site meetings, questionnaires and other methods to engage the wider community, and conduct progress meetings with users as the project develops.
