The McKellar Kids Rehab Therapy Garden is an outdoor therapy space designed by Jeavons Landscape Architects. Families can now bring their children for therapy in a child-focused environment rather than attending sessions at an adult facility.
Its goal was to mimic what a young person might experience in their day-to-day life – including kerbs, ramps, paths with different textures, aimed to assist their rehabilitation. The rehab centre provides specialist rehabilitation services for young people aged 0-25 with complex care needs and who live in the Geelong & Barwon South-west region.
The design of the Therapy Garden is a series of spaces that need to strike a balance between varying experiences and qualities: a sensory-rich environment of textures, smells, colours, sounds and hands-on engagement; to quiet spaces for one-on-one speech therapy sessions or spaces to seek solitude.ย
