Haileybury City Campus has recently opened Melbourne CBD’s first vertical school campus on King St to supply for the increasing demand of school places in the city.
Jeavons Landscape Architects designed and documented the Early Learning Centre rooftop outdoor play space, creating a space for students to learn, create and explore.
Main features of the play space design include a natural feel play space using rocks and logs, dry creek bed, plants and vegetable gardens in raised planter boxes, sand play area, shade structures and flexible play areas.
Jeavons worked closely with Darren Carnell Architects and Irwin Consult Engineers to develop creative solutions to deal with structural weight loading as well as reducing wind exposure on site. The project was project managed by Gallagher Jeffs and constructed by Melbourne Landscape Company.
The early learning centre has been in operation since early 2016 and stage two, the primary school outdoor play area is currently to be completed early 2017.
