The Dallas Brooks Community School opened its new frog bog yesterday! Indigenous leader Colin Hunter Jr Jr. led a smoking ceremony to open the space, and the ashes of the fire will be buried under the nearby sculpture of Bunjil who watches over this zone.
The frog bog was designed by Jeavons Landscape Architects to create and enhance the frog habitat on this low-lying site, and for the school and adjacent kindergarten to use as an outdoor learning area, nature zone and gathering space. It utilises runoff from adjacent roofs, and was constructed by Leigh Stewart and team from the Melbourne Landscape Co. The frog bog site is fenced and is only used by the children under supervision.
