School Landscape Architecture & Design Services

Jeavons have a strong track record as a specialist landscape firm working in schools of all kinds.  We create beautiful, inclusive, and functional outdoor spaces which are specifically designed for children, staff, and the wider school community. Our work as a landscape design consultant embraces primary, secondary, special schools, state schools, catholic and independent, urban, and rural schools of all sizes.

Landscape design services in schools

We have many years of experience in large consultant teams, working on new schools on green-fields sites. We also collaborate with architectural firms on existing school refurbishments, and work for individual schools to plan outdoor learning spaces, playground landscape design, play equipment areas, sensory gardens, and improvements in school landscape maintenance.

Our landscape architecture services include landscape master plans, full design documentation, and services during construction. Schools frequently use our landscape concept design work to apply for funding grants.

The importance of school landscapes 

The outdoor environment plays a significant role in today’s schools. Jeavons carefully plan school grounds to meet the diverse needs of students. We place great importance on outdoor play and inclusion, for each age group, and for all abilities. At the same time, we design the grounds to function optimally for sport, recreation and fitness, outdoor learning, social interactions, access to nature and natural habitats, and to support the wellbeing of the whole school community.

Consultation and engagement with students and staff   

Our work in educational landscape design is multi layered and we consult widely to ensure that the grounds meet the diverse needs of the community.

Every school has a different way of working with specific needs and objectives; We work closely with school leadership teams, parent bodies, staff and educators, and the students themselves.  We observe students using the outdoors and use child-guided tours to inform us of the complex interactions between children and their spaces in these important environments.
