The Mill Park Regional All Abilities Play Space has been thoughtfully crafted with a focus on inclusive opportunities to encourage the physical and cognitive development of all individuals through play, social interaction, unstructured outdoor recreation, and self-guided exploration. The built form encourages users to grow and develop skills and confidence with repeated usage of the play elements whilst exploring the natural and built environment and testing their own limits.
Within the secured perimeter fence, the four quadrants of play are;
Junior Play zone
Designed to meet the physical and cognitive developmental needs of young children, the focus is on the evolution of skill and strength that comes with age and repetition of use.
Sensory/Quiet zone
A retreat area within the wider reserve, the Sensory zone is a space where individuals can return to when the external sensory stimuli of the wider play areas become overwhelming.
Multi-age accessible zone
The central zone is focused on inclusive intergenerational play, whilst facilitating skill development and challenge in a controlled environment. This zone includes the swing and flying fox area, the accessible tower, the water play splash pad, the seniorโs agility equipment and wheelchair accessible trampoline.
Teen to young adult zone
Designed to engage a demographic typically overlooked in playground redevelopments, this zone includes a full-size multi-lined basketball court and a large grass area for unstructured recreation.
