Burwood East Special Development School (SDS) Play Spaces Constructed

It was a welcome surprise to the start of the school year for the returning children and staff at Burwood East SDS with their new play spaces completed and ready for use. Jeavons designed and project managed the construction of the senior, middle and early education play spaces of the school grounds. The design focused on the school’s design requirements for the children to engage in vestibular, kinesthetic and proprioceptive activities, on top of the other 5 sensory elements.

Rooftop Play Garden for new Fiona Stanley Hospital

The Paediatric ward of the new Fiona Stanley Hospital has an eclectic small rooftop space on the third floor that aims to provide a sensory outdoor refuge for patients, siblings and families using the new hospital. Jeavons Landscape Architects designed and documented the space, working with the FS Hospital client, with head contractor Brookfield Multiplex and with landscape contractor Environmental Industries . Springvale Family and Children’s Hub Outdoor Playspace Revisited – Four Years On

This is a children’s outdoor play space that shows the effect of planting as a strong spatial element. A large, unstructured space has been divided into sub-spaces that better suit the scale and purposes that children need for their play. The outdoor play space at Springvale Hub Children’s Centre was constructed at the end of 2009 and over these four years the planting has established well – demonstrating the value of good TLC from the centre staff and management.

South Kingsville Pre-school

South Kingsville Pre-school successfully applied for a community grant to design a sensory garden .  Jeavons Landscape Architects was invited to design the garden following consultation with the pre-school committee. A very narrow space along one side of the pre-school outdoor area has been transformed into a series of intensively textured spaces that children can walk through as part of a journey, or pause in to play – a kind of ‘worlds within worlds’ experience.

Monkey Play at the Werribee Open Range Zoo

Children visiting the Werribee Open Range Zoo can now mimic the monkeys at Monkey Play – a small nature-based play space designed by Jeavons Landscape Architects.
